For generations of Americans, Trumpy built the ultimate in desirable motor yachts. Trumpys offered excellent live-aboard room and all the luxuries many Americans won't leave home without.
But after decades of handcrafting beautiful wooden boats, Trumpy fell victim to changing tastes, rising wages and tougher economic times. The company closed in America -- but fans of the famous yachts were delighted when Vicem Yachts, a Turkish shipyard, began building Trumpys again.
Now Vicem has announced it is building classic tenders for its 100 foot plus range of luxury mega yachts.
In a break from tradition, the new tenders will be available to all buyers -- not just those ordering a new big Trumpy. The 20 foot tenders will be available in three designs, the gentleman's racer, the centre console and the Capri. All will feature six foot six inch beams and a draft of just 18 inches.
They will be built in the same cold moulded timber fashion as the megayachts and will feature custom hardware and leather seating sure to appeal to the fussiest owner.
Fitted with a 160hp Yanmar diesel, the tenders will have a top speed of just over 26 knots and a cruising speed of 22 knots.
The base price for each of the three models is $US135,000. The first boat will be on display at the Miami International Boat Show in February, 2010.
