Electric outboard motor maker Torqeedo has launched several all-new models aimed at dinghy sailers and larger sailboats.
The Torqeedo Travel 603 electric outboard motor is aimed at powering smaller dinghies and day sailers of up to a tonne of displacement.
It produces the equivalent of up to 2.0hp and includes an integrated on-board computer that can provide GPS-calculated range and runtime data.
Powering the Torqeedo Travel 603 electric outboard motor is a 500Ah battery that clips in on top of the unit, and will even float if it is accidentally dropped in the water. The motor is also available with an optional USB port to allow the skipper to charge a smartphone on the move.
Torqeedo said the entire direct-drive unit weighs 15.5kg, with the heaviest single component of the Travel 603 weighing 11kg.
The new outboard motor comes with a two-year warranty.
Meanwhile, two new saildrive units – the Deep Blue 50 SD and the Deep Blue 100 SD – have also joined the larger inboard engine line-up.
Built in collaboration with German transmission specialist ZF, the 50kW and 100kW saildrives are rated for up to 30 knots and tap into battery systems designed for the BMW i3.
The Cruise series of outboard motors from 5kW to 20hp capable of pushing boots of up to 10 tonnes also adds TorqLink to the Cruise 10.0 R and Cruise 10.0 FP tiller steer models as part of a series of updates rolling out across the range for 2021.
TorqLink is the plug-and-play interface that Torqueedo uses to build its hybrid engine systems.
However, the 10hp outboard motors are not yet delivered to the Australian market.
