Japanese outboard engine maker Tohatsu has unveiled a new flagship four-stroke outboard engine, the MFS140A.
Due for global release in Japan in July with no information about a wider global distribution, the new 140hp outboard engine will join Tohatsu’s new-generation 75hp, 90hp and 115hp models revealed last year.

According to Tohatsu, the new fuel-injected, variable valve lift MFS140A will come with “powerful acceleration and top speed” via “top torque in its class”.

Images show the outboard engine uses a 4-2-1 exhaust system to extract more torque from the cylinders.
The MFS140A also uses an automatic timing belt tensioner to reduce noise and vibration, roller rocker arms to increase durability, and more than 10 sacrificial anodes to minimise corrosion.
A new maintenance feature is an oil drip tray used to prevent oil from dripping into the water when the oil filter is changed while the boat is still on the water.
Tohatsu said the outboard engine would match a “wider range of boats” in need of extra horsepower.
The engines will be available either in white, or Aquamarine blue.
No other details on the new engine are available.
