Love boats and Lego? Here's our guide to the easiest way to combine the two passions.
If you’re a car enthusiast, the brick-by-brick world of Lego has you well and truly covered; just have a browse on our sister site carsales.com.au to see how well the motoring side of things scratches just about any itch that car-loving Lego enthusiasts could have.
However, if you’re a boating enthusiast, the amount of Lego kit on offer is, well, limited.
We scraped the Lego website to find out what boating-related kits are available to anyone who wants to fill in a few hours building their own boat – albeit in scaled-down form.
For anyone who wants to take their scale boat-building skills to the next level, the world record for the largest lego boat belongs to Danish shipping and transport services company DFDS A/S, which in 2016 built a replica of one of its ferries using more than a million bricks, and weighing in at almost 3.0 tonnes.
It officially “launched” the boat by smashing a Lego bottle of champagne against the hull.
“Put the wind in your sails with this amazing racing yacht” cries the promotional scree accompanying this 330-piece kit launched in 2017.

According to Lego, this is an “authentic replica of a real-life yacht” featuring painted sails, and working lines and winches. The boat’s wheels also turn, while a back-up tiller will set the rudder.
Lego says the finished boat will measure 29cm high, 36cm long and 8cm wide. An optional catamaran version based on the same kit will measure 27cm high, 31cm long and 11cm wide once finished.
Ominously, Lego warns this boat won’t float.

Lego has bought into the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise with a massive 2294-piece kit that shapes into a replica of the Silent Mary, one of the ships that features in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. In the movie, the boat started life as a Spanish navy galleon captained by Armando Salazar, a famed pirate hunter.

The kit includes eight figures including Salazar and Captain Jack Sparrow, Salazar’s unique hairpiece, and a Lego replica of Galileo's diary – an integral part of the movie’s plot. It even contains two ghost sharks.
The finished model measures 48cm high, 68cm long and 22cm wide. If you want to stay true to the movie and collapse the main mast, the model’s width blows out to 36cm wide.

This is another of Lego’s kits that can remorph into another style of vessel, meaning you effectively get two boats in the one pack.

In one version, you can assemble the 174 pieces into a power boat featuring “a sporty aerodynamic design, open cockpit with steering wheel and tinted windshield, and a red and black color scheme with racing stickers”. In another versoin, it transforms into a hydrofoiler.
There’s a mechanical aspect, too, with moving pistons in the engine as you turn the boat’s props.
The finished boat measures 10cm high, 23cm long and 7cm wide. The hydrofoil version is slightly shorter and not as long, but measures 10cm wide.

This fusion of motor yacht and working boat is built around a pair of divers and a submerged treasure chest. The motor yacht includes a sun deck out front, a turning searchlight and a removable roof that allows access to the cabin below.

Adding to the underwater appeal is a Lego sawfish figurine, and a couple of crabs. Diving accessories include the gear needed to go underwater, video camera, mask, a fish, and a buoy.
The finished 148-piece model measures 5cm high, 4cm wide and 4cm tall.

Cops and robbers takes to the water as the bad guy in an inflatable boat with a paddle tries to outrun a police boat with a what Lego says is a “big” outboard engine.

For some reason, there’s also a skunk included. Let your imagination run wild as to how that fits in with the story.
The bad guy’s kit includes a box with diamonds and a crowbar to pry the lid open, while the policeman’s kit includes a set of handcuffs.
The kit consists of 126 pieces, and you get two boats out of the deal; a 15cm long police boat and a 8cm long bad guy’s inflatable.
