The new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409

The new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409 was launched at the Cannes Show in September and has already reached its first milestone with 100 orders confirmed worldwide, five of those in Australia.

This Briand design breaks new ground with a totally new deck layout which is clean and simple. The main and the jib sheets are led back to primary winches on both sides adjacent to the helmsman for ease of handling. The standard headsail is a 105 per cent overlap, but there is also a factory self-tacking headsail option. For those who want to take it to another level, a performance 140 per cent racing genoa is also available.

The cockpit gains additional length due to a shorter transom step with a fold-down swim platform and a large folding cockpit table that lends itself to entertaining. Down below, the rich interior with abundant hardwood trim highlights the traditional woodwork for which Jeanneau is known. Exceptional visibility and ventilation is achieved with an abundance of opening ports and flush hatches.

Three layouts are available to suit individual requirements and there is a choice of traditional teak and holly or light oak floorboards. A choice of high-end contemporary upholstery options complements this modern design. Nominated for ‘European Yacht of the Year’ the first example is due in Australia early in
the New Year.
