Picnic boats and lobster-style boats have solicited interest in Australia for some time now. Their nautical heritage goes way back, but the Glorious 38 aims to be a new player in that growing market.
Built in China, the Glorious 38 has been bestowed the tag of ‘Gentleman’s Motor Cruiser’ by its importer Steven Arenson from Sydney Powerboat Centre, who claims the boat is built well, functional and competitively priced.
"Compared to a high-end picnic boats, the Glorious costs $150k less and it has twin engines.
"The gunwales are nice and high so it's a safe... it would be a great boat for a couple with a dog in tow," he says.
The big cockpit is the highlight, letting you entertain, fish and
easily store water toys aboard between anchorages.
Given the
absolutely enormous underfloor wet well, this boat is obviously based on a commercial
fishing craft. The boat has that purposeful line, an enclosed wheelhouse or helm deck, with a small galley and dinette up. There are big windows and lots of light.
The saloon dinette lounge converts to a single bed to complement the double berth below, giving sleeping for three. The bathroom has hot water and a handheld shower.
There’s a genset, air-con, fridge, bathroom, outdoor barbecue, Garmin electronics, and more.
True walkaround decks make accessing the bow a cinch, while rod holders on the rails mean you can set a spread of lines when drifting for a fish dinner.
It’s actually a very decent fishing platform with a lot of room to move from the foredeck to the cockpit with a heap of underfloor storage.
With twin 240hp mechanical Yanmar diesel engines, top speed is listed at 26 knots and you apparently cruise for more than 200nm at 23 knots with the 800lt tank, the specs say.
Glorious Motor Yachts is based in Hong Kong, with its boats built in Shanghai. There are four models in the range from a 34ft trawler, this 38 motor cruiser, to a flybridge 55 coming to the Sydney boat show, and a 68ft flybridge boat made entirely out of wood.
We're told the company owner is a successful wood merchant with a penchant for boating. Glorious is a new brand listed on our sites and this 38 GMC had a list price of $690,000.
