The five-day Sydney International Boat Show returns this month with a host of new and exciting models sure to woo Sydneysiders recovering from two years of COVID-19 pandemic cancellations.
Horizon Yachts will have the Horizon E75 as the showpiece of its Sydney display. Stretching 22.6 metres long and elevated over three levels, this stunning motor yacht features increased volume and numerous entertaining areas throughout.
If big boats dripping with luxury appointments are your fancy, d’Albora Marina will have the Azimut S6 Sportfly Coupe on display. The honour of being the biggest boat, though, will go to a 104-foot Gulf Craft Majesty 100 from Australian Superyachts that will sit alongside a Gulf Craft Oryx 37 sports cruiser.
Princess Yachts Australia will have two boats on display including the fresh-look flybridge-equipped Princess V55 flybridge and the Princess S62 Sportbridge.
Meanwhile, Fleming Yachts will have the twin-cabin Fleming 55, the first of its kind in Australia to use this configuration. The boat itself is not new – the 55 dates back to 1986 but has evolved over time – with this particular layout increasing onboard space and providing more streamlined accommodations.
One of the big showings at Sydney will be the all-new X-Power 33C, making its southern hemisphere debut.
Designed as a dayboat and the first powered X-Yachts model globally, the Italian-style dayboat with overnight accommodations has a quality Danish design and a 370hp inboard diesel engine that can push the boat to a top speed of 42 knots.
South American boat-maker Schaefer Yachts launched itself in Australia at Sanctuary Cove, but it will expand its model range on offer here with the Australian debut of the Schaefer Phantom 400.
Boasting to be the only boat in its category with two suites, the Phantom 400 also features a protective hardtop that makes it ideal for extending boating trips beyond the traditional fair-weather season.
Trihull specialist Corsair will use Sydney for the launch of its new flagship performance sailing model, the Corsair 880 Sport. It will sit on the water at Multihull Central’s stand.
Luxury RIB maker Highfield will show the Highfield Sport 700, a luxury dayboat that made its Australian debut at the 2022 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show.
One of the more spectacular reveals locked in for Sydney this year is the official world debut of the Iliad 62, a new-generation cruising catamaran that replaces the Iliad 60.
This luxury 18.95-metre liveaboard catamaran features more than 3500 nautical miles of range – think a return trip from Sydney to Vanuatu – and a huge amount of interior volume, with the flybridge alone able to seat up to 10 people in extreme comfort.
Multihull Solutions always has a few surprises in hand for Sydney and this year will feature both the Fountaine Pajot MY5 powered catamaran and the Fountaine Pajot Isla 40 sailboat.
The MY5 is the replacement for the Fountaine Pajot M40 and features a flybridge deck and a huge amount of interior volume for entertaining. It features two helm stations – one on the flybridge and in the saloon – so the skipper does not need to be separated from the cat’s social hub while underway.
The 11.93-metre inverted-bow Fountaine Pajot Isla 40 is the smallest member of the French boatmaker’s sailing range. While compact –the boat even features a single helm station offset to starboard to create space in the aft cockpit – its clever use of interior space provides up to four double cabins.
Ray White Marine, meanwhile, will feature an eight-model line-up that will include an Australian premiere for a boat brand celebrating its 180th birthday, Riva. Pride of the Ray White Marine line-up will be the Tiffany-inspired 12.0-metre Rivamare 38 open dayboat that includes a forward berth for those days that run into another. Other boats on show will include the Technohull 40 Explorer, Amalfi-inspired Itama 45s, a flotilla of Ferretti motor yachts including the 500, 550, 720, 780, and the high-paced Pershing 64.
Sydney-based Boat Monster is the official distributor for US saltwater specialist Invincible Boats. It plans on having two Invincible multihulls on its stand, the Invincible 33 Catamaran and the Invincible 37 Catamaran. Rounding out its display will be a pair of Italian luxury dayboats, the Ranieri Next 285 LX and the Ranieri Next 330 LX.
The pride of Flagstaff Marine’s display at Sydney will be the Beneteau Gran Turismo 36, a fast and spacious sports cruiser capable of accommodating up to seven people in style, including an owner’s cabin in the forepeak.
Performance for the Euro-chic Gran Turismo 36 comes via a pair of 350hp engines rigged as either inboard sterndrives or as outboards hanging off the transom.
In terms of sail craft, Flagstaff will have the Beneteau Figaro 3, the world’s first production monohull featuring retracing foils that get the boat up out of the water similar to the Volvo ocean racers.
This third-generation Figaro moves away from the water ballast-based system of previous models to tap into Beneteau’s evolving foiling technology to provide the boat’s righting moment counterbalance.
Joining the foiler on the stand will be the Excess 11, a member of Beneteau’s luxury cruising catamaran range and featuring the taller Pulse rig that makes it ideal for light winds.
Flagstaff will also display the new Beneteau Oceanis 40.1 and its bigger sibling, the Beneteau Oceanis 46.1.
Another of the newcomers to Sydney will be the Amel 50 luxury monohull sailboat. Ignore the mast, and this boat has similar lines to a motor cruiser including a semi-enclosed cockpit offering almost full sun and weather protection.
If you’re into comfortable shorthanded sailing, Seawind Catamarans will be attending this year’s Sydney show and bringing along its flagship Seawind 1160 sailer to go on display at the Multihull Central stand.
One of the more unusual boats on display will be the Float Boat, a modular watercraft compact enough to fit in the back of a ute. First impressions suggest it’s little more than a plastic tub with outriggers, but it can adapt to provide more room than its diminutive size would suggest.
