The next stage in the makeover of Queensland haulout and maintenance hub The Boat Works is about to kick off with a $30 million expansion of its superyacht facilities that will increase its physical footprint.
The size of the Coomera-based facility’s superyacht yard will increase by another 50 per cent under the Stage 5 plans that will focus on adding more sheds and hardstand space to the site’s three-year-old superyacht yard.
Works by the Longhurst family have already started, with the expanded site expected to be open by the end of this year.
The expansion follows the completion of three new workshops commissioned earlier this year.
The Boat Works chief executive Tony Longhurst said the site was adding more infrastructure for tenants and customers.

“There is a huge demand to accommodate more boats undercover and our 70 sheds have reached capacity,” Longhurst said.
“We are proud to offer new opportunities for growth for all our marine service partners within the facility. Their success in turn enhances our operational efficiency.
“The Boat Works has evolved to provide two world-class yards with high-end facilities and lifting equipment while maintaining our focus on customer service,” he said.
“We are proud of our reputation for exceptional internal culture and going above and beyond for our customers.”
Work has also started on a two-storey waterfront commercial centre with offices and showrooms for new marine service providers and yacht sales businesses.
According to Superyacht Australia, the number of superyachts that now call Australian waters home has grown from 59 charter vessels in January 2020 to more than 120, with more expected to hit our shores ahead of Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic Games.
The rise in the number of superyachts coming to Australia is expected to create a spike in the number of superyachts needing either maintenance or refits here.
