The Bare Essentials On Bareboat Chartering

The Adelaide-based Academy of Maritime Training has developed an instructional DVD for sailors preparing to charter a boat, without an experienced skipper on board, for the first time

To be launched at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (May 24 to 27), Preparing to Bareboat Charter follows a couple as they navigate their way through the common pitfalls often encountered by those chartering on their own for the first time.

The DVD explores topics such as anchoring, navigation, boat handling, mooring, radio procedures, heavy weather, reefing sails, boat systems, and more.

“Bareboat chartering for the first time is often fraught with anxiety, but if you already know the basics you’ll be confident and ready to enjoy your first trip to the full – that’s the essence of what this DVD is all about,” the Academy of Maritime Training’s Rowland Short said.

The Preparing to Bareboat Charter DVD is available in English, French and German, and has a recommended retail price of $49.95.
