Temporary light at Norah Head
Navigation still safe during repairs to historic lighthouseRoads and Maritime Services (RMS) has said that a temporary light has been installed at the Norah Head Lighthouse to provide safe navigation for mariners.
"The lighthouse light was turned off yesterday to continue investigations into minor faults with the rotation mechanism," a spokesperson said.
"The temporary light is powered by 120 volts and has a range of 20 nautical miles.
“A lighthouse expert from Brisbane will inspect the housing and rotation mechanism of the five-tonne lens which normally powers the lighthouse light.
“The lighthouse light has recently experienced a series of minor faults. It is hoped the cause of the fault can be determined quickly so the lighthouse can be fully operational again.
"RMS maintains and operates the Norah Head lighthouse.
"The Norah Head Lighthouse Trust is responsible for maintaining the lighthouse building," the spokesperson said.
