While lead driver and team owner Bob Trask battled throughout the weekend with fuel delivery problems in the #19 boat, younger brother David Trask in the #18 TDC / Sea Quest boat won two of the three heats and finished second in the third.
"We endured a very mixed bag over the weekend," said lead driver Bob Trask.
"After our strong showing at the opening round at Taree, I was looking forward to backing up the result with another run at the front of the field. But when we went out for practice on Saturday I was well down on power suffering a fuel starvation problem."
"The more I practiced the worse it became. The trouble was sourced particles clogged up the fuel filters."
Bob Trask qualified the #19 boat in 10th position for the first heat at Toukley while David Trask was the pole sitter. With blistering speed at the start of the race, Bob Trask quickly moved through the pack to come home in fifth place after 15 laps. David Trask took the chequered flag with a start to finish run at the head of the field.
"We started the heat well," Bob Trask said. "But the further we went the more junk clogged the filters. By the end of 15 laps the boat was still fast in a straight line but the engine starved badly for fuel coming out of the corners."
The race story was replicated in the second heat. David Trask took the chequered flag while Bob Trask came home mid field with his fuel problems unable to be resolved on race day.
The third heat shaped up to be a 1-2-3 victory for the Trask team, but when the starter dropped the flag, David Trask's engine failed to fire and he was left languishing on the start dock. A hard-charging driving feat saw the #18 Trask boat get up into third position mid race, when the red flag came out as Shane Vella flipped.
On the re-start David Trask moved into second place on the opening lap, only to have the race stopped, and declared, when the Star FM boat barrel rolled on a corner.
"While the fuel delivery system let us down badly over the weekend, there's not a lot that we were able to do at the race circuit to rectify this kind of problem," Bob Trask lamented.
"Gladly we got amongst the points and the team did well with David taking the points for the GTR Team at Toukley. Racing is as much about refining and learning about our equipment and I'm certain that we will all be wiser for the experience."
The next round of the Australian F1 Superboat series will be staged at Hobart on the weekend of April eighth and ninth.
The first round of the UIM F1 World Championship will staged at Qatar on April 15th. Bob Trask and David Trask will again be representing Australia running the two-boat Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team throughout the 11-round world series.
