One of Hobart's most popular marine dealerships is closing its doors with the retirement of owners Lew and Glenda Bush.
The Bushs have run Eastern Shore Marine in Hobart since 1989 and established themselves as one of the most popular marine dealers in the Apple Isle.
A Yamaha platinum dealership, Eastern Shore Marine will be lost to Tasmanians as the new owners of the Mornington site will be changing it to a non-marine business.
Glenda Bush told BoatPoint a variety of factors had prompted their decision.
"Lew has had a few health problems and, after 20 years in business, we felt we could do without added stress," Glenda says.
"We were mulling over out future when we received an offer out of the blue. The timing couldn't have been better. The purchasers met out price and the whole process came together quite nicely."
Glenda says that over their 20 years as a Yamaha dealer she estimates Eastern Shore Marine has sold in excess of 5000 Yamaha outboards.
So it is no surprise that a new Yamaha-powered Allison rig in the showroom will play a role in their future.
"We very much enjoy our boating and time spent on the water, so next summer we'll be ready to get some hours up on out new Yamaha four-stroke," she says.
"What we will miss most will be out valued customers, the friendships we have made with them, our work colleagues and the many reps who call in.
"We have many customers who have supported us over our 20 years of business. In some ways we feel we are letting them down but when we tell our customers we are retiring, every one of them has been genuinely happy for us."
