Known as Tartan yachts, these vessels are at the forefront of marine technology, said Yarra's Edge Yachts (YEY).
Australia's first Tartan yachts are being delivered to YEY, a boutique international brokerage in Melbourne's Docklands, where they displayed the yachts during the recent International Boat and Lifestyle show.
Tim Jacket, chief designer and chief operations officer for Novis Marine, calls their latest range of vessels 'performance cruisers'; designed for cruising but with the engineering and performance of a racer.
Novis Marine said it made a substantial investment in industry-leading carbon composite technology, with the fleet now built with hulls of epoxy composite laminate that are significantly stronger and 50 per cent lighter than the polyester constructions of other builders.
The unique high-tech process of impregnating the epoxy resin into the unidirectional laminate yields an optimum resin-to-fibre ratio, providing the maximum relationship of strength-to-weight. They are stronger, safer and faster said Bill Ross, Tartan's chairman.
"Our boats are all muscle and no fat," said Ross.
All models are equipped with carbon fibre masts. No other builder in the world offers this as a standard feature, said YEY.
