This weekend marks the beginning of the Tall Ships Festival in Melbourne.
To kick it all off, the British tall ship Lord Nelson is due at Port Phillip heads at 0900h on Friday and will be docking from 0800h on Saturday after spending the night at anchor off Williamstwon.
The three Dutch ships, Oosterschhelde, Europa and Tecla are due at the heads at 2100h on Friday and are also due to dock from around 0800h on Saturday.
The ships will be open to the public from Saturday until Wednesday September 11, and there will fun for all the family around the Williamstown waterfront.
As well as being able to tour the tall ships, the Melbourne-based tall ship Enterprize will be conducting day sails on all days of the festival.
The tall ships will make a great spectacle on September 14 and 15 when they set sail in Southern Port Phillip before making their way through the Heads and on to Hobart.
Other tall ships visiting Melbourne over the festival include the Young Endeavour, Soren Larson, and Windward Bound. One ship that didn't make it is the Indonesian ship Dewaruci which unfortunately lost a mast in bad weather off the WA coast and is not able to travel to Williamstown for the event.
