Sydney to Hobart 1964

See what the Blue Water Classic was like 50 years ago in the historic video below

The 1964 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race was won by the famous Halvorsen brothers Trygve and Magnus aboard their lovely yacht Freya.

Line honours went the big 73ft schooner Astor which led the 38-boat fleet from start to finish.

The film features some wonderful aerial footage of the fleet leaving Sydney Harbour an interview with Trygve and Magnus in Hobart, a young Rupert Murdoch sailing his 54ft ketch Ilina to second place on line honours and a sound track featuring one of the songs written about the race.
