Australia’s largest boat show will honour late boatsales.com.au Editor, David Lockwood, when it opens its doors on August 2.
To celebrate David’s contribution to boating, and the Sydney International Boat Show in particular, organiser, the Boating Industry Association, has christened the show’s on-water display, the David Lockwood Marina.
Sydney International Boat Show returns to its traditional Darling Harbour location this year and with that the focus again returns to the Cockle Bay on-water display (pictured).
In 2018, BIANSW expects more than 200 craft to be berthed on the marina that bears David’s name.
“David was a very strong supporter of the Sydney Boat Show and boating in general,” Boating Industry Association (BIA) President Alan Blake stated.
“Every Sydney boat show he just about lived on the marina for the duration.
“We think it’s an appropriate way to celebrate David’s contribution to the show and we’re very pleased that David’s family has given us the honour to name it so,” Blake stated.
The David Lockwood Marina and the show’s exhibition halls open at 10am on August 2. The 2018 show runs through to August 6 with doors open to 7pm each evening.
The BIA expects over 250 exhibitors will fill the new exhibition centres seven halls.
A significant number of new boat debuts are expected both on and off water. Brands like Riviera have already announced their star attractions; however, Aussie industry big-boat stalwarts like Maritimo and Caribbean are all also expected to lift the sheets off new models.
Inside the halls, key attractions will include dedicated fishing, diving and boating stages. The Event Deck of the new exhibition centre will feature large 'try boating' pools for the duration of the show.
