Mercury Marine is taking its new Mercury Diesel TDi engines on the road to give potential customers a hands-on introduction.
Featuring the new 3.0 litre V6 TDi DTS engine in a new Rayglass Legend 2350, the four-month tour is scheduled to cover some 30 locations across three states.
“We’ve got a library of case studies from happy customers who just rave about their TDi engines,” said Mercury Diesel’s David Meehan.
“But nothing beats first-hand experience of feeling the power and hearing how quiet these engines are. If anyone was thinking about repowering a boat or building a boat with diesel engines, this is a great opportunity to experience the product.”
The boat and engine package will be on display at Mercury’s stand at the Sydney International Boat Show, but then it’ll hit the water for the Grand Tour which will go along the New South Wales coast and then up into Queensland before taking in key sites across Victoria.
"Dealers, customers and the media are all going to be invited to hop aboard and take the TDi-powered Rayglass through its paces," said Mercury Diesel's David Meehan. "And they can expect a good ride."
Mercury says that the 260 hp, 3.0-litre V6 TDi gets the Rayglass -- which weighs about 2000kg -- onto a plane in just 6.5 seconds. Comfortable cruising is at 21.5 knots and top speed is 37.8 knots at 4,000 rpm.
"Of course, one of the key features of a diesel is its outstanding fuel economy compared to a similar petrol engine and we’ll be inviting the people on the boat to work out those numbers for themselves," Meehan said.
Mercury claims the Diesel TDi engines, created using Volkswagen’s engineering, deliver high performance from a compact and lightweight platform.
The new Mercury Diesel models are all SmartCraft enabled and fully compatible with Mercury’s Digital Throttle and Shift (DTS) system.
