
The first Back Cove 41 has arrived in time for its debut at the 2015 Sydney International Boat Show. In keeping with its 30-37ft sister ships, the new 41ft flagship of the range is powered by a single diesel engine.
The Back Cove on show has a base 600hp Cummins QSC 8.3 with shaft drive for a top speed of 26 knots and very agreeable 22-24 knot cruise speeds, we're told. A lot of effort has gone into reducing and suppressing running noise. There are engines up to a Cummins 720hp.
Bow and stern thrusters come standard to assist close-quarters manoeuvring, while upgraded proportional thrusters and GPS-linked auto trim tabs are a feature of the showboat.
"We're excited about the Back Cove's launch at the Sydney boat show. It really graduates the Back Cove brand into a larger, coastal cruising boat with more comfortable accommodation," says Jed Elderkin from EMarine, the Australian agents for Back Cove and Sabre motoryachts.
The purposeful 41 incorporates two cabins, with the aft sleeping arrangement athwartships. Each cabin has its own head and shower.
Side-by-side Stidd helm Seats are standard equipment up on the internal helm deck and a side-opening door allows quick access to the walk around side decks for safety and convenience.
The large cockpit of the 41-footer can be fitted with an optional Sure Shade retractable awning for escaping the Australian sun and the practical outdoor area boasts plenty of space around the twin inbuilt aft-seating arrangements, each with a table for doing lunch.
To assist entertaining duties there is an aft galley opposite a large social seating area and dinette. Abundant storage is featured throughout, including a dedicated underfloor area amidships for all your cruising stores.
Designed by Kevin Burns and the Back Cove Yachts team, the new 41 has the Maine-based yard's signature Down East styling that gives a nod to traditional boats in the local area. But the hull, stringers and deck are resin infused and the electronics are start of the art side-by-side Simrad 16in screens with radar and autopilot, AIS and more on the show boat.
