Suzuki has unveiled its all-new DF115BG and DF140BG four-stroke outboard engines – the first in their class to offer drive-by-wire throttle and shift controls.
Suzuki said that while 115hp and 140hp outboard engines were mainly installed on mid-size pleasure boats, it was seeing an increase in the number of owners “who wish to have the same advanced technologies of high-power outboards installed on large-sized boats”.
“Hence, the DF115BG/140BG have adopted the drive-by-wire throttle and shift control technology called the Suzuki Precision Control, which is installed on Suzuki’s large-sized outboards ranging from 150 to 350 horsepower,” Suzuki said.
“This control system replaces the conventional mechanical cable with electrical wires to realize smooth and secure shifting as well as swift and precise throttle control.
“Combined with Lean Burn Control System, their fuel efficiency has been enhanced in a wide range of speeds.”
In yet another advance that is aimed at making boating more “pleasant”, Suzuki said both outboard engines now came with “enhanced silence through suppressing the intake sound by adopting silencers”.
The new outboard engines also adopt an “upgraded” compression ratio for the 2045cc four-cylinder engine used in both the DF115BG and the DF140BG to give it better handling and cut down even more on fuel use.
Another big improvement is that the oil filter has changed its mounting position; replacing the oil filter is now a simple matter of removing just the cowling to make maintenance much easier.
The new 115hp and 140hp outboard engines will be built in Japan and released in overseas markets including North America, Europe and Japan from October.
