Suzuki releases new-gen DF115B, DF140B outboard engines

The change increases the compression of the new “B” series engines – renamed the DF115B and DF140B – from 9.7:1 to 10.6:1 to increase the level of performance.

Suzuki says the lean-burn technology that helps the engines achieve better fuel efficiency has also been improved, with savings of up to 10 per cent across mid-range to high-end cruising speeds.

The engines also gain a new look, with a redesigned cowl featuring what Suzuki claims is a “sporty, streamlined profile, sculptured to complement any type of boat with its smooth exterior appearance”.

The cowling hides a new air intake structure that is better at separating air and water, and a silencer-resonator that helps to cut engine noise at higher revs, making them run much quieter compared with the outgoing DF115A and DF140A engines.

Durability has also been improved with the new engines.

“An optimised gear oil passage contributes to lower gear oil temperatures with greater cooling efficiencies increasing the durability of the pinion gear,” Suzuki said.

“A large capacity fuel pump, optimised O sensor mounting location and use of zinc-coated rust-proof fasteners further contribute to Suzuki’s renowned durability.”

In terms of maintenance, the oil filter has moved to just below the upper engine cover to make it much easier to replace, while an oil catcher around its mount helps with mess-free changes.

The engine’s fuel filter has also gained a water sensor to help protect against problems caused by contaminated fuel running through the fuel system.

The changes to the mechanically controlled "B" engines reflect those made to the drive-by-wire DF115BG and DF140BG outboard engines released last year.

The new engines will be available in Australia from March, and covered under Suzuki’s six-year limited warranty that includes three years of factory backing.
