Suzuki Australia has officially taken over the national distribution of its outboard engines, marking a formal end to an almost 20-year association with former official distributor The Haines Group.
The move to a wholly owned sole national distributor for Suzuki Marine’s outboard engine range brings the brand’s marine, motorcycle and car divisions under the one management structure.
“Coinciding with the commencement of Suzuki Australia’s marine division is the launch of a completely new marine website, marine.suzuki.com.au, designed to provide the ultimate user-friendly experience with improved navigation and functionality throughout,” Suzuki Australia said in a statement announcing the change.

Suzuki Australia said it had also activated new social media hashtags “to satisfy the demands of fans hungry for the latest Suzuki marine news”.
Last year, Suzuki introduced drive-by-wire systems for its new 2.0-litre DF115BG 115hp, and DF140BG 140hp four-stroke outboard engines in response to customer demand for the features normally reserved for more powerful outboards to trickle down to smaller ones.
The technology introduces simplified rigging across a wide range of hulls, with Suzuki saying the system delivers “silky smooth shifting, instant throttle response, enhanced performance and superior fuel efficiency”.
“The reliability and precision control of Suzuki's drive-by-wire technology has been proven for years on Suzuki's popular 150HP through 350HP models,” it said.
The two new engines feature an upgraded 10:6.1 compression ratio to help with better top speeds and acceleration, while fuel efficiency at cruising speeds has increased up to 7 per cent, it says.
The engines also feature an upgraded 40-amp alternator that helps with delivering enough energy to the power-hungry technology that now features on many smaller boats.
Suzuki has also announced it will offer the option of a special filter on its outboard engines that can scrub out damaging microplastics from water as it passes through the cooling system.
