Suzuki has released the 250hp DF250ATSS, the first of its high-po SS-badged outboard engines to adopt digital throttle and shift controls.
The new engine – in a size favoured by US bass tournament boaters – includes a redesigned lower gear unit to deliver more holeshot performance, as well as an asymmetrical skeg.

The engine was revealed in the US, with few details and no news if it is destined for other markets including Australia. Suzuki Marine Australia was asked for comment.
Suzuki Marine said the DF250ATSS was the first SS Series outboard to feature compatibility with Suzuki’s state-of-the-art Suzuki Precision Control (SPC) electronic shift and throttle system.
Of note, the outboard engine will also integrate with Suzuki’s Digital Pro-Pedal foot throttle that's favoured by bass boat owners who prefer car-like throttle controls.
“Suzuki SS outboards were created to bring powerful holeshot, strong mid-range pull and great fuel economy to anglers and boaters,” Suzuki Marine said.
“Now, by integrating with Suzuki’s proven SPC system, boaters can add crisp, responsive shifting, silky smooth acceleration and sports car-like operation to the mix.”
The Suzuki DF250ATSS also features a new cowling design with gloss black highlights, as well as new locations for louvres on the side and back of the housing.
The engine also features a new water pick-up layout so it can operate better in shallow water applications.
The engine will be available in the US in a few months' time in either grey or white.
Suzuki also announced a new-look 115hp DF115SS alongside the DF250ATSS.
