Suzuki has released details on the all-new Suzuki DF115SS performance-honed outboard engine that will provide plenty of performance without the legacy of a lot of weight.
Key to the improvements of the new 115hp Suzuki DF115SS released for the US market this week are new knock and oxygen sensors that can sense when fuel has been left in a boat for a while and has started deteriorating, and adjust the engine’s performance accordingly.

Likewise, Suzuki has updated the engine’s fuel pump, filter and ventilation system to make the engine more reliable if the fuel happens to have lost some of its potency due to age.
The outboard engine has a redesigned top cowl and air intake to better separate water from air feeding in, while the exhaust system gains a new resonator to smooth out harsh tones.
Maintenance has also bee a key part of the Suzuki DF115SS’s makeover, with the unit featuring a relocated oil filter that can now be changed by removing just the top cowling, and a filter guard that can catch oil before it leaks into the outboard engine.
Changing the engine’s oil is also easier via a hose inserted into the oil level gauge.
Getting into the nuts and bolts, the Suzuki DF115SS has increased its compression ratio from 9.7:1 to 10.6 to help improve fuel economy and holeshot performance.
Meanwhile, the DF115SS swaps over to the same alternator configuration as the recently revealed DF140B, but improved so that the alternator’s output is higher at lower revs.
Suzuki has also rolled out tweaks to the DF115SS’s troll mode so that its control speed now starts at 650rpm rather than 700rpm, allowing for lower trolling speeds.
The Suzuki DF115SS will be sold in the US in either black or white finishes. It will sell alongside the newly revealed Suzuki DF250ATSS outboard engine, also revealed for the US market this week.
