Surtees Boats has released a new upgraded version of their popular 5.8 model, now with significant design enhancements.
The new 2014 Surtees 5.8 model range now boasts a 5mm hull and 4mm sides – the company says that the improvements were made to further boost on-water performance.
“Feedback from the market demanded a 5mm hull on the 5.8, which now turns an already great riding boat into an exceptional blue water performer,” says Surtees Boats Managing Director Phil Sheaff.
“The 5.8 retains all the same attributes it has been well known for such as seaworthiness, stability, and safety, but now we feel we’ve made it even better, taking these features to a new level.”
“We haven’t changed the hull shape of the 5.8 in any way. All we have done is upgrade it from 4mm to 5mm aluminium. New 4mm sides, upgraded from 3mm now help the 5.8 to be even quieter on the water, the added weight further improving performance in rough water conditions.”
“Like all other Surtees models, the 5.8 range has our famous flooding keel for stability at rest and features a fine-entry hull, with variable 19 degree deadrise at the stern. These features enable a super-smooth ride and a noticeable lack of pounding through rough seas,” Sheaff said.
While visually the 5.8 remains largely the same, the model range now also features hydraulic steering and alloy rod holders as standard.
Also standard on 5.8 Workmate and Game Fisher models, foldaway helm seats create a practical layout to maximise cockpit space for fishing and large side shelves and an underfloor bin provide plenty of storage.
With a distinct accent on fishing, the 5.8 also features 15 rod holders, a full transom with boarding platforms and a ladder as standard.
The new hull upgrades and standardised features are available on all versions of the 5.8, including the Centre Console, Workmate Hard Top, Workmate with collapsible roof and Game Fisher models.
The new 5.8m range will be on display at the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show in May.
