Superior Jetties in $5 million contract for Abu Dhabi Yacht Show marina

Australian manufacturer of residential and commercial berthing systems, Superior Jetties, has won a major project with its UAE joint venture partner, the Al Masaood Group, to construct the marina for the 2009 inaugural Abu Dhabi Yacht Show

The event is being managed by Informa Yacht Group, the organisers of the Monaco Yacht Show and opens on March 12.

Superior Jetties said the $5 million project at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC, right) allows for both a permanent concrete structure for the mooring of megayachts up to 90m as well as the temporary hospitality pontoons used during the show.

Gold Coast-based Superior Jetties said the marina is a logistics coup as they are supplying the expertise for the local construction of the superyacht marina while also manufacturing the hospitality pontoons.

The concrete main marina will be manufactured in Abu Dhabi with supplementary personnel and materials flying in from Australia to support the team at Al Masaood - a major player in the local UAE marine market for more than 50 years - for the project.

With a very short timeframe for the project, John Hogan, managing director of Superior Jetties, said: "... our team has responded to the challenge by increasing output before the Christmas shutdown to meet the schedule.

"There is an extensive network of people in Australia, the UAE office and Europe who have combined to make this a reality. We are very pleased to be the first Gold Coast company to construct a superyacht marina, as we expect there will be more projects like this in Queensland in the future," Hogan said.

Superior Jetties said the main marina is 350m long and five metres wide, and features the Superior Elite system which allows the flexibility to alter the configuration easily because of its modular layout. This will be necessary due to the ADNEC facility hosting the IDEX defence show on February 22, where naval vessels will need access to the site, the company told Trade-a-Boat.

The project team has calculated sections of the marina to be relocated during the show, to easily accommodate these needs, said Superior Jetties.

The show is shaping up to host an impressive array of the finest superyachts available today, with the 90m yacht Lauren recently announced as a participant. Superior Jetties said it has also retained megayacht specialists to consult on the berthing process to ensure a smooth running show.
