Fast French sailing cat on display in MayAfter astonishing Europeans with her 20-knot-plus sea trials, French cat builder Catana's speedy new 42 'entry-level' luxury cat is set to wow Australian multihull enthusiasts when she debuts in Queensland in May. At the time of writing, the 42 was on a ship and on its way to Brisbane.
Importer and local Catana agents, Multihull Solutions says the new demonstrator will be fully optioned and eye catching with her contemporary steel-grey exterior hull colour. The contemporary cat has been optimised for fast cruiser/racing and has a race-away price of around $750,000 landed with upgrades and options.
Specifically, the Catana 42 demo includes performance Hydra Net sails, bow sprit with gennaker, carbon bimini, Textile lifelines, solar panels, Garmin electronic pack, LED lights, and Alcantara man-made suede interior upholstery.
Clocking nearly 22 knots during recent European sea trials, the fast Catana 42 is demanding attention from buyers, media and industry experts with her ability to harness the slightest gust and deliver fast and outstanding offshore performances, says Multihull Solutions.
The Catana 42 sails with great alacrity due to a comprehensive range of technical innovations that Catana says are exclusive to its French shipyard.
The catamaran’s unique beam/length ratio, adjustable daggerboards, tilted and tulip-shaped bows, aerodynamic coach-roof and torpedo-shaped hulls combine to make the 42 a revolution in the marine industry, claims Multihull Solutions.
At the cutting edge of recreational boatbuilding, the carbon infusion process, now standard on all Catana models, ensures that the 42 is an incredibly high-performance, light and stiff boat.
At 20 knots before the wind, and 12 knots into the wind, the Catana 42 is said to offer its passengers an unrivalled level of comfort and safety for a cat of this size.
Indoors, the Catana 42 has an ambient and spacious interior with 360-degree, panoramic views from generous windows. With direct access to the cockpit, its saloon is the hub of the boat and is equipped with an abundance of storage space. The light-filled cabins, excellent ventilation, contemporary interior design, thermal and audio insulation, have all been designed to make life on board easier and more comfortable.
