The Sunshine Coast Yacht Club is hosting the Sunshine Coast Ocean Regatta (SCOR) 2016 from October 13-15 out of Mooloolaba, with an official launch of what was once the largest regatta on the East Coast at the yacht club on June 14.
After a hiatus of almost 20 years, the chummy ocean-racing regatta will be back with vengeance as racing sailors chase the divisional trophies and the chance to see their name on the coveted Frank Hurd Memorial Trophy.
The trophy is awarded by sailing peers for Performance and Character. The club says much interest has occurred after the resurfacing from storage of the coveted SCOR Frank Hurd Memorial Trophy.
There is a lot of history and character attached to the trophy that dates back to 1930s and which attracted a blue-ribbon race fleet in its hey-day in the 1970s.
This year, the SCOR will be held in October on the sparkling Sunshine Coast waters with offshore courses set anywhere between Noosa and Caloundra. Entry costs $200 per yacht and berthing is free at the club. Notice of Race and further details at www.scor.com.au.
