Some people reckon the first blowfly heralds the start of summer but in Sydney the longer and warmer days are marked by the arrival of international superyachts.
The latest mega yacht to grace Sydney Harbour is the Nautor Swan 112, Song of the Sea, which is drawing admiring looks at the d'Albora Marina in Rushcutters Bay -- just 100 metres from the CYC.
Built in Finland in 2002, Song of the Sea was then the largest Swan yet built and was the star of the Monaco Boat Show that year. Designed by German Frers and built in GRP, the 127 tonne sloop is a few centimetres more than 112 feet long (34.3 metre) and boasts a beam of 24.3 feet (7.42 metres).
She has accommodation for 10 guests and five crew. Formerly registered in the Bahamas, Song of the Sea was sold last year for 6 million Euros and is now flying the flag of Malta.
Rubber-neckers trying to get closer to the lavish yacht have been foiled; she is sitting in the privately gated section of d'Albora.
