New Zealand alloy chamber boat specialist Stabicraft has teased a new model it plans to reveal next week just in time to put a deposit down on one by Christmas.
The new model, tagged the 2050 Treker, will also introduce what Stabicraft says is a new style series – teasing the new model is likely to get an equally new look to carry the brand forward.
It will officially launch on Thursday, December 14.
According to Stabicraft sales and marketing manager David Rarm, “the existing Fisher Style Series is about to get a bigger North American brother”.
Stabicraft’s Fisher series is currently made up of two runabout models, the 4.7-metre Fisher 1550 and the 5.7-metre Fisher 1850.
The new model is likely to be based on the Stabicraft 2050 models that include Supercab, Ultracab and Ultra Centrecab layouts.
The Fisher series boats are quite unique in the market, featuring large flip-up windows that provide easy access to the bow of the boat, removing the need for walkaround decks.
The 2050 Treker’s hull is expected to push around 6.3 metres in length, yielding the boat a huge cockpit tucked in behind the console.
“The new model will be aptly named; the Stabicraft 2050 Treker, with the Style Series title "Treker" portraying someone or something resilient, reliable, and ready to embark on adventurous journeys, mirroring the characteristics of Stabicraft boats themselves,” Stabicraft said in a statement posted on its website
“While the new Treker Style Series is set to challenge one of the most competitive market segments in North America, it will bring a completely different feature set to both the New Zealand and Australian markets,” it said.
A teaser image uploaded to the website shows the bow section of a traditionally styled Stabicraft boat. However, it features a low windscreen with what appears to be a central opening pane. The rest of the image is obscured by spray.
Stabicraft’s Fisher series of boats is known for its ruggedness, featuring trailerable platforms that are as comfortable on an inland lake as they are taking to sea when conditions suit.
The flotation chambers built into the sides of the boats make them virtually unsinkable.
The Fisher range features a rather shallow 16.0-degree deadrise, with the sides built from 3.0mm aluminium.
The hulls are quite light compared with fibreglass boats of the same length; the hull on the 1850 Fisher tips the scales at just 748kg.
Stabicraft has released no further details of the new model ahead of its launch.
The Invercargill, New Zealand-based brand recently launched its first US-built model, called Alpha, as part of a big push into the North American market – a market it has struggled to service based on the big distance in between the boat-builder and buyers.
