The Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard is the most affordable way into the iconic lifestyle-focussed boating brand.
Comfortable and packed with features despite its smaller size, the Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard makes for an ideal family boat that keeps with Sea Ray’s sporting ethos.
The Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard comes standard with a 115hp Mercury Pro XS outboard engine, but owners who want to tap more of the hull’s performance can step up as high as 150hp.
A large swim deck is built around the Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard’s engine pod, providing walk-through access from one side of the boat to the other.
The optionally SeaDek-lined swim deck is fitted with a flip-out extending swim ladder that extends deep enough into the water so that climbing back aboard is easy.
Access to the cockpit is via a walk-through transom built into the port side of the Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard. The other side of the transom features a large sun pad.
The carpeted cockpit and console blend into the one space. A bench backing onto the transom sundeck will comfortably sit three children or two adults.
The Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard can come with two cockpit configurations, either with or without an optional standalone co-pilot seat on the port side of the boat.
The standard version of the boat without the co-pilot’s seat features a wide, deep bench with a flip-up legrest and removable backrest that converts the space into a forward-facing sun lounge, or a rearward-facing seat if an observer is needed for tow sports.
A glovebox is mounted into the dash in front of this space, while a large storage compartment is built into the space below it.
The helm, with its three-spoke steering wheel, features analogue instruments arrayed across a blacked-out dashboard to cut down on glare.
The minimal instruments are backed up by Mercury’s VesselView Mobile system that displays engine information, including revs, speed and the amount of fuel in reserve, to any connected smartphone.
The bow lounge is accessed via a central companionway built into the middle of the console. It features a swing-out pane built into the low wrap-around windscreen and a wind-blocker panel.
The lounge has two good-size forward-facing seats built into each side of the bow. A central space includes a pair of cupholders.
The Sea Ray SPX 190 Outboard is too wide to tow conveniently on Australian roads. That means most owners will look to either haul the boat out of the water and store it at a marina, or dry-stack the boat.
Because the boat has an outboard engine that can tilt up, owners have the option of running the Sea Ray SPX 190 up onto a beach to set up a day camp ashore.
