When it was introduced in 2018, the Riviera 395 SUV shook up the market. After a decade in the wilderness, all of a sudden there was a Riviera model once again slipping in under 40 feet long, and priced at launch below the million-dollar benchmark.
But that sub-million price tag doesn’t translate to a cheaply built boat. Line it up alongside Riviera’s larger and much more expensive models and you’ll notice the Rivera 395 SUV is built to the same exacting standard, and with the same quality of workmanship and fit-out, as its bigger siblings.
The Riviera 395 SUV easily rivals its imported competitors on value for money, quality of construction, fit and finish, and handling and performance.

Single-level living is a hallmark of Riviera’s six-model SUV line-up – the range has this year expanded to include a flagship 645 SUV – with a level floor on every member of the range running from the cockpit and through the saloon.
And despite its diminutive size in the scheme of things, the Riviera 395 still has a master stateroom with a walkaround queen-size bed, handcrafted storage and designer en-suite, while a guest stateroom accommodates up to three adults.
In the saloon space, the Riviera 395 SUV features an aft galley that intersects the indoor and outdoor space, with a large lounge space opposite. Forward of that is a dinette and the single-seat helm station.
Deep windows surround the saloon space, with sliding windows, twin sunroofs, and a large glass panel in the bulkhead providing natural airflow.
Outside, the cockpit, complete with a large awning, features a corner lounge and table that convert to a day bed, and a fold-down seat that tucks away into the bulwark to create more space.
The transom houses a large barbecue facing the wide swim deck, complete with sink and mixer tap faucet.
Access to the bow is via a wide companionway featuring 100mm deep bulwarks. Up front is a twin sun lounge with adjustable backrests and plenty of drink holders.
The big benefit of the Riviera 395 SUV is that it is easily small enough for a cruising couple to manage. Its sub-40-foot length should also save some money at the marina when it comes to berthing fees.
Powering the 395 SUV are twin 440hp Volvo Penta D6 IPS600 turbo-diesel engines coupled with IPS 10 pod drive units.
Expect a range of about 300nm at slow cruising speeds, with a fast-cruise speed somewhere around 30 knots-plus.
