Bowriders are big business in Australia, and few have done it better than the Quintrex Cruiseabout range.
Both Quintrex, and Cruiseabout are long-established names on the Australian boating scene, and at the pinnacle of the range is the Quintrex 590 Cruiseabout.
The 590 Cruiseabout was updated in 2021 to improve its ease of use. This included a repositioned duckboard that sits higher on the transom, a redesigned extruded plastic dashboard that can accommodate larger screens, a new-look deck, a split bow rail and bowsprit, two rather than just one maxi bracket for mounting accessories such as swim ladders and berley pots, and more underfloor storage.
The 590 Cruiseabout is available as a base package or as a Pro model. The big difference between the two is that the Pro upgrades the base model’s hydraulic steering with a steering wheel that adjusts to three different heights, making it easier to sit or stand at the helm.
The Pro range of boats also offers new upholstered side pockets, bow cushioning and deluxe rear lounge upholstery with hidden rather than exposed fastenings.
The interior is important because this is a boat that can take up to eight people along for the ride, spread across the bow lounge up front, the helm and first mate seats, and the rear bench seat.
The boat has a range of options that make it a more comfortable boat for a day out on the water, including a cockpit table, an infill cushion for the bow lounge to turn it into a sun pad, ski hooks for towing, bimini and envelope, cockpit lights and an electric anchor winch.
The boat rides on Quintrex’s Blade hull, which is renowned for cutting through short, sharp wave chop.
It is equally at home traversing rolling offshore swells and taming the kind of mixed-up sea conditions found between the breakwalls of a barred inlet.
The Blade hull has been around for a while now, but Quintrex has made subtle improvements to recent models to enhance it.
The boat is rated up to 150hp, but unless you’re needing the extra speed, the Quintrex 590 Cruiseabout should still perform well with a 135hp powerplant – saving around $10,000 off the list price.
