Turn back the clock a few years and one of Australia’s best selling boats was once a small tinnie – the Quintrex 420 Busta.
Affordable, well equipped for the money and suited for everyone from the family to the fisher, even today it remains one of the better walk-up packages on offer.
The Quintrex 420 Busta is the smaller of the two-boat Busta range. The bigger one isn’t that much bigger, with the 4.6-metre Quintrex 440 Busta only 39cm longer than its shorter sibling.
The Quintrex 420 Busta is built on Quintrex’s Blade Hull, featuring a sharper, sleeker shape and increased deadrise compared with older Quintrex hulls.
Quintrex says the hull shape releases spray further aft to provide an even drier ride, and more hull efficiency via balanced convex and concave shapes offering lower planning speeds and improved top-end speed.
Despite its status as an entry-level boat, it’s still a pretty well-equipped rig. The boat features a casting platform in the bow, a flat floor that’s even carpeted, and side pockets for storing gear.
Up the front is an anchor well, and the boat also features side and bow rails. Two bench seats run across-thwarts.
There are also a few things to pick from the options list, including a bimini and envelope, bow roller, painted two-tone hull and hull stripe, dual rod holders, a sealed timber floor, and even a full vinyl wrap for the hull if you want it to stand out.
In terms of performance, the Quintrex 420 Busta will take up to a 50hp tiller steer outboard engine. That’s more than enough poke to get places quickly if you need to.
Prices start from around $4700 for a bare hull, or from around $12,500 for a boat, motor and trailer package featuring a 25hp outboard engine.
