US saltwater fishing boat specialist Pursuit sees a lot in common between its home market and far-flung Australia.
Just like the US, we seem to like our large, comfy saltwater fishing boats that are capable of playing around in the bay chasing snapper as they are running wide after tuna.
The cheapest way into one of the brand’s centre console boats is via the 7.4-metre Pursuit C 238.
Pursuit has a reputation for building tough, dependable boats that are pretty much ready to go fishing as soon as they roll out of the showroom.
Standard equipment on the Pursuit C 238 includes a moulded fibreglass hardtop with an overhead glovebox, supported on a powder-coated alloy frame and fitted with a tempered glass windscreen, and a walk-in console large enough to house a toilet.
Being a crossover model, the Pursuit C 238 includes a bow lounge with backrests. The seat cushions are removable so that if fishing is the main aim of the day, you can use the forward space as a casting deck.
The dual-width helm station with the wheel to port is large enough for two people to duck behind and get out of the weather while underway, and is fitted with two separate chairs that convert into leaning posts.
There is space under the helm seats for a 170-litre Yeti icebox.
A stern seat provides more seating while underway, and conveniently folds away when not in use.
Pursuit rates the C 238’s hull as capable of taking between 250-300hp, with hydraulic steering standard on Yamaha-equipped US models.
Other features include a folding stainless steel boarding ladder, bronze through-hull fittings below the hull’s seven-degree heel line, foam-filled hull voids to assist with level flotation, stainless steel fittings including drink holders, transom door, four gunwales-mounted rod holders, an 85-litre plumbed live bait tank, below-gunwale rod storage, and a 400-litre fuel tank.
Cobalt Boats Australia, Pursuit’s official local distributor, currently has a new Pursuit C 238 priced from $169,000, including electronics, a saving of around $20,000 over the boat’s list price.
