Spotlight: Evo T2

This one-off superyacht tender was so good that Evo Yachts has decided to put it into production

When does a tender become so big and luxurious it’s probably better to class it as a day boat? Evo Yachts has asked, and potentially answered, that question with its all-new Evo T2.

The 7.0-metre tender was built to serve duty with a new 46-metre Sanlorenzo superyacht. The original brief was to produce a custom-built tender, but the Evo T2’s length meant it could also stuff in all the comfort and amenities of a fully fledged day cruiser.

Evo was so happy with the result that the Italian boat-builder has decided to put the tender into series production as a new range of superyacht day boats.

“Right from the outset, the owner had very clear ideas: he wanted something luxurious, elegant and high performance, all at the same time,” Evo T2 designer Valerio Rivellini said.

“Working with the owner’s manager Tonino Cappiello, we analysed the products available on the market and decided the best way forward was to design a custom tender.

“We successfully satisfied all the owner’s needs by building a product that embodies the Evo Yachts spirit in terms of aesthetics and functionality,” Rivellini said.

The Evo T2 is designed to slip into a tender garage, featuring a height-adjustable console that squashes the height of the boat down to a snip under 1.5 metres, making it an ideal height to squeeze into a tender garage.

It’s a bit better equipped than most tenders, too, featuring a battery charger for the engine and house batteries; a 12/24-volt converter; shore power; enough space and electrical grunt to store and charge a pair of Seabobs; a table for eight; an electric winch; a ski tow hook; and a hydraulic boarding ladder.

Day boat comforts extend to a sofa that transforms into a sun lounge with a low table; a steel fridge in the cockpit and a "practical" bimini top.

Performance comes from a 300hp inboard engine driving a hydrojet transmission, making it a compact form for stowing in the tender garage or beaching. Cruising speed is rated at 28 knots with wide-open throttle delivering 36 knots.

In an attempt to make the Evo T2 as easy to operate as possible, owners can control all onboard functions using either a touchscreen mounted at the helm or via a smartphone linked to the boat’s Bluetooth service.

No pricing was disclosed.
