Not everyone wants the limited space of a pocket cruiser even if it is dripping in luxury appointments. That’s where boats such as the De Antonio D46 comes into play.
De Antonio Yachts is a fairly new boat brand based in Barcelona, Spain. Its founders, Marc De Antonio and Stanislas Chmielewski, have built the brand around boats featuring simple, bold lines, but featuring style, sportiness and comfort.
The De Antonio D46 is the flagship of the four-model range that kicks off with the 8.0-metre D28.
It’s a stunning, clean design, featuring a plumb bow to maximise interior space for the waterline, sharp chines, and long, narrow windows breaking up the clean white space of the deep hull. Underneath, the boat features a high-speed hull designed to maximise wide-ranging cruising ability.
Because it is only 45 feet in length, the De Antonio D46 is a size that can easily be managed by a cruising couple.
On the surface, the boat looks similar to what you’d expect if you were buying something with an inboard engine. However, the De Antonio D46 uses either three or four outboard engines hidden away beneath a pair of large rear engine pods.
The benefit of this is maintenance, as you can easily service the engines while the boat is on the water, and even lift the outboard engines up out of the water while tied up at the marina.
The De Antonio D46 is available as either a soft-topped Open or enclosed wheelhouse Cruiser with a forward sunbed.
Both configurations feature a walkaround deck clear of any visual clutter, as there are no guard rails carried forward.
The De Antonio D46 sits high off the water with deep freeboard all around. In order to maximise space below, the cockpit is raised two steps up from the rear swim deck.
Dominating the aft section of the De Antonio D46 are two large sunbeds split by a central companionway into the almost amidships cockpit. The sunbeds cover the outboard engine wells below them.
A large dinette with L-shaped seating to port and an L-shaped lounge to starboard fills the rear of motor yacht.
Moving forward, a compact galley to starboard backs onto the twin-seat helm, while another day be that converts into a seat fills the port side. Access belowdecks is via a central companionway.
On the Open, the entire cockpit is framed in a glass windscreen that tapers as it moves aft. Forward vision is helped via a deep, steeply raked two-piece windscreen.
Despite its compact size, the De Antonio D46 can come with up to three staterooms and two bathrooms with semi-enclosed showers, with the amidships owner’s suite built across the beam.
Options are to remove the central twin cabin to convert the downstairs space into a lounge area with day head or to also remove the forward cabin and convert the entire space into lounge seating.
The De Antonio D46 is made for getting places quickly; cruising speed for the most powerful configuration featuring quad 400hp outboard engines is 30 knots, with top speed estimated at a staggering 49 knots – over land, that’s the equivalent of 90km/h – in a boat weighing around 10 tonnes.
The De Antonio D46 is available in Australia via the Boutique Boat Company.
