US boat-maker Crownline has dedicated a lot of its focus over the last two years to upgrading its range that sits below 7.0 metres in length. One of the boats to benefit is the Crownline 210 SS, a member of the brand’s bowrider line.
Crownline boats are built heavy to make them more durable than rivals. Underneath it is the Gen2 hull developed by Crownline and optimised for performance and handling.
The hull of the Crownline 210 SS uses a fairly shallow 19-degree vee hull, which makes the front of the boat much more stable at rest.
Uniquely, the hull’s design also includes a step on the aft section that draws in air and mixes it with the water passing along the hull, reducing friction and therefore improving performance. However, ahead of the step is a small blade that protrudes into the water, providing more lateral grip while turning.
The boat is fitted throughout with quality stainless steel, including a bump plate on the bow that protects the gelcoat while putting the Crownline SS 210 on the trailer, and pop-up cleats bearing the Crownline logo.
The stern has a large SeaDek-covered platform extending from it, with the option to fit a pair of aft-facing speakers – ideal for when you’re towing a water toy. A drop-down stainless steel swim ladder provides easy access from the water.
The back section of the Crownline SS 210 is dedicated to a large sun pad. A set of aft-facing adjustable backrests turns the seats into rumble seats with their own stainless steel drink holders. The central cushion can be removed to provide a central walk-through space to access the cockpit.
Inside the cockpit, a full-width lounge with storage space below runs across the full internal beam of the boat. Deep side pockets provide a stash space for other gear.
Forward is the split console, with the first mate’s seat to port and featuring access to a large lockable – and drained, so you can use it like an icebox – glovebox.
Both the height-adjust, rotating front seats are shaped around the user, and feature flip-up bolsters that make it easy to stand behind the console. In between is a large underfloor ski locker.
The deep windscreen offers good protection to the skipper. Old-school analogue gauges are available as standard, although you can upgrade these to digital units.
A centrally opening glass panel in the wrap-around windscreen provides access to the Crownline SS 210’s bow lounge.
The lounge is fitted with armrests on the aft inboard forward-facing seats, and has stainless steel grab rails. Large storage spaces are under both seat bases, and a table can drop into the centre of the lounge.
An infill cushion converts the bow lounge into a second sun bed.
The forepeak contains an anchor locker.
Powering the package is a 250hp 4.5-litre Mercury MerCruiser inboard engine fitted to a Bravo III sterndrive.
At 2.49 metres, the beam of the Crownline 210 SS means it is good for towing on Australian roads. However, it’s also a boat that’s perfectly suited to either a sea pen or dry storage at a marina.
The Crownline 210 SS is available from Crownline Australia, priced from around $140,000.
