Spotlight: Bluewater Marine Group

Jay Povlin, president of Bluewater Marine Group, reveals exciting plans to expand the range of Trophy sportsfishing boats to Austalia, writes Kevin Poulter

Trophy targets Down Under

TrailerBoat interviewed Jay Povlin recently during his visit to Berowra Waters Wholesale. Many readers know Berowra Waters through its associated company, Avante Marine. As president of the Bluewater Marine Group, Jay has significant input to the new Trophy sportsfishing boats for Australia.

Povlin made it known there are many new models and innovations in store: "Trophy is one of the top selling brands in the world, sold around the globe under the Brunswick umbrella (Brunswick is one of the largest companies in the world, especially known here for their Mercury products).

"We have some product lines that need to be filled and also leverage the saltwater research and design resources we have in Edgewater, Florida, with our group of engineers who are dedicated to all aspects of saltwater fishing, saltwater designs and saltwater engineering. They are fishermen and focus solely on the needs of the saltwater fisherman.

"Ultimately, we will be delivering new products that customers enjoy and are excited about, so they tell their friends about them when they find that a Trophy is a durable, reliable, high-quality boat at a great price.

"We have considerable work going on right now in Edgewater, Florida, and we are going to be introducing products in many different segments; not re-designed, but brand-new products coming for the Trophy line in the next year or so.

"We currently have boats from 17 to 29 feet. To expand on this, we'll add a little smaller and go larger as well. So let's say we are going to have from 16ft to mid 30s in many different configurations. Many centre consoles are going to be introduced. Walkarounds are certainly a very popular type of boat and we have walkarounds that will be what we call in the states 'expressed' style boats.

"At least one of the models we have coming in the near term is a style where it's wider in the cockpit and certainly wider in the cabin, but with a lot of space in the cockpit to move around to catch fish.

"There are no differences in boats for Australia; there are some differences in the terms of regulations relating to trailers and that sort of thing, but as far as the boats go, the construction techniques are certainly valid in both countries," Polvin said.

TrailerBoat magazine will be the first to test and showcase the new Trophy models when they are completed.
