It’s almost been a year since French sail and powerboat behemoth Beneteau launched the Beneteau Gran Turismo 36, an all-new compact sterndrive or outboard-engined model, to its line-up.
Stretching 11.6 metres overall – its compact size means it can slip into a berth made for a 40-footer in the old measure – the Beneteau Gran Turismo 36 is a good size for a couple or small family.
Twin engined – so performance is guaranteed – Beneteau classes the Gran Turismo 36 as a sports cruiser. What that means is that you’ll get to where you’re going quickly, drop anchor, and then feel at home.
Beneteau’s brief with the Gran Turismo 36 was to build a craft that looked like a sports boat, but didn’t compromise on cruising ability and living space.
That includes a versatile and functional saloon covered with a sedan-styled hardtop, a big eight-person cockpit space with a separate galley space with fridge, grille and sink and plenty of seating that doubles as a sunpad, and two twin berths below, one of which can split into two single beds.
The sleeping spaces are separated by a galley, and a fully equipped bathroom with separate shower cubicle.
The Beneteau Gran Turismo 36’s twin-seat helm, featuring twin 12-inch Garmin multifunction displays and a large sunroof overhead, is connected to a number of engine choices.
A recessed area on the foredeck includes a couple of sun lounges.
Sterndrive options include dual Volvo Penta 300hp or 350hp inboard engines, while twin 300hp or 350hp outboard engines are available for those owners who like the convenience of lifting the engines out of the water, and easier on-water maintenance.
Joystick controls for moving the Beneteau Gran Turismo 36 at low speeds are available for boat inboard and outboard-engined boats, as is a bow thruster.
Sundance Marine has announced the Beneteau Gran Turismo 36 is arriving in Melbourne soon, with a mid-year delivery ensuring owners will be well and truly ready for summer.
