Spotlight: Axopar 29

Axopar has launched a new generation of the boat that introduced the Norwegian adventure boat brand to the world, unveiling an all-new Axopar 29.

The Axopar 29 is the spiritual successor to the Axopar 28, the model that introduced the concept of a fast, sleek and deep vee dayboat to the world.

Rather than just produce a slightly beamier version of the 28, Axopar went back to the drawing board. The hull has been redefined with the hydrodynamics improved, more side chines added and a wider flare to the bow to deflect spray, the way it is built adds more lightness, the extra width provides more walkthrough space, storage and seating are improved, the hardtop includes a canvas awning and a folding mast, and it now has a larger 400-litre fuel tank.

But it is also a better dayboat. Axopar has developed a front “multi-cabin” focusing on storage, sleeping space and a head.

The multi-cabin is set up as standard as a large storage space, with the option to expand it to include a freshwater head and washbasin. Taking it further, the cabin space can be set up to offer a full-length berth for overnight stays.

The modular design also means owners have some good options to choose between for how the aft cockpit is configured, either as an open space for watersports, with a wet bar or as a sun lounge with an aft cabin space below.

Fast running

The Axopar 29 still features the deep 49.0-degree hull forward, running aft to a 22.0-degree deadrise that marks it as a sharp-entry hull, good for heading beyond the safety of the bay.

The Axopar 29 is no slouch, either, with the transom rated for anything between 300hp and 400hp of performance to give it a top speed of around 48 knots.

Fuel use is tared at around 1.6 litres a nautical mile for a version of the Axopar 29 fitted with a single 350hp outboard engine, and cruising at between 24 and 34 knots – that’s a theoretical range of around 250 nautical miles.

The Axopar 29 can come in several configurations including a commuter-style row of seats behind the twin-seat helm, or with a U-shaped lounge that converts into a large sun bed.

The Axopar 29 will make its Australian debut at the 2024 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May via Eyachts.
