Spotlight: 2019 Yellowfin Rear Console

Yellowfin Plate has launched a new style of boat that places the console right down the back – with a grand view of the action

Yellowfin Plate has added a rear console runabout to its new mix of 27 models as it steps into a niche the ocean-rated aluminium boat brand has never played in before.

The rear consoles will be built in all five sizes offered in the Yellowfin Plate line-up – 5.8, 6.2, 6.5, 7.0 and 7.6 metres – with a Platinum Pack offering a bundle of gear that most buyers would probably have opted for anyway, based on the brand’s buying history.

Yellowfin Plate boats are made for the most extreme conditions that the Australian coastline that throw at it, the Queensland-based boat-maker says.

“We’ve got a comprehensive range going on now,” Yellowfin Plate national account manager Nathan Shaw said. “There’s a lot of feedback from different parts of the country where different models were specifically popular in that area, which we weren’t offering in the Yellowfin range.

“The first one of those 27 models is the rear console – in the NT, this is a very popular model for a long time, but it’s becoming more popular around the country as well.

“We sell a lot of them in Sydney, into north Queensland, on the Gold Coast occasionally; it’s just a really fast-growing, popular model.’’

Rides like a dream

According to Shaw, the rear console “rides really nicely” with the console down the back of the boat, where three individual seats are arranged side-by-side.

“Obviously in terms of the softest part of the boat being at the back, you can really tell that with this Yellowfin.

“It’s nice and dry as well, it’s not like you get spray over the sides or anything like that. If it’s windy or really rough you will, but as far as an open boat goes it’s really dry and a nice-handling model.”

Yellowfin Plate says the rear console is suited for everything from “the river to the reef”.

“This design was developed in the NT by the saltiest of guides and used across Australia because it has complete visibility of the entire vessel while driving the boat,” it says.

The layout places the captain in the centre of two crew. Three more seating positions are spread throughout the boat; one on a forward casting platform, and two amidships.

Other features include a removable bait board that assists with casting, and enough space on the console to take up to a 16-inch touchscreen chartplotter and fishfinder.

Built tough

All Yellowfin Plate boat hulls are built using the brand’s “marine core” system with 6mm bottom plate on all but the Yellowfin 5800 Rear Console (which uses 4mm plate), and 4mm plate for the top hull and transom.

The variable deadrise of the hull “eliminates the tippy feeling and slices through chop with ease,” the boat-maker says.

Yellowfin Plate says the Rear Console has a large central fishing area and a raised platform forward, giving a mix of vantage points when casting.

“To get up on the casting platform, there is a step/storage compartment large enough to house two to three electric motor batteries,” it says.

“Inside the casting platform is a large hatch that can fit a large cooler box.”

Key optional features on the Yellowfin 6200 Rear Console include a removable bait station, an electric drum winch with 80m of rope and 5m of chain, a Fusion sound system, a storm cover for the console, Zipwake trim tabs, and a Lowrance HDS chartplotter/fishfinder, and custom paint or vinyl wrap.

Special pack

Making up the Platinum Pack are a raw water deck wash, LED light kit, Garmin GX750B VHF radio, spare wheel, cover and trailer mount, transom cutting board, burley bucket, single or two-tone paint, a three-step dive ladder and deck top-mounted sinker cups.

The Yellowfin 6200 Rear Console is fitted with a 115hp Evinrude E-Tec HO outboard engine featuring fuel-injected two-stroke technology.

Base pricing starts from $61,920 and steps up to $70,700 once the Platinum Pack is added.
