Spotlight: 2019 Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed

The Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed introduced a new way of building boats that makes them better-suited to offshore fishing adventures

The Haines Hunter 700 trailerable game fishing boat was introduced in 2017 using new construction methods for even more offshore ability.

It was the first boat in the Haines Hunter range to introduce an all-fibreglass stringer system that has since been rolled out to other boats in the brand, including Haines Hunter’s specialist fishing line, Southern Formula.

This enclosed version of the Haines Hunter 700 adds greater protection, more headroom, and more storage than the boats it has replaced, including the once-popular 680 Patriot that it has replaced.

Haines Hunter says the 700’s cockpit is bigger and offers greater freeboard than previous boats, while at the same time delivering “new innovations to set the benchmark”.

“Capable of fishing six large adult anglers in comfort, the enormous cockpit now has a standard side door which creates an ideal offshore fishing and diving platform,” it says.

The Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed comes fitted with a fully moulded hardtop with a tinted clear hatch, a six-rod rocket launcher and stainless steel support rails. The hardtop’s windscreen includes a wiper and washer bottle.

Standard equipment

Standard equipment on the Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed includes a single-tone hull and deck – optional gelcoat colours include Royal Blue, Burgundy, Ferarri Red, Yellow, Charcoal and Black – an electric anchor drum winch with rode and chain; bowsprit and roller; stainless steel bow eye and rear tow eyes; recessed cleats; a starboard-mounted deck hatch; moulded side pockets large enough to store rods; a bow rail made from 32mm stainless steel; an automatic bilge pump; and navigation lights.

The Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed’s hull is foam-filled, with a flowcoat surface covering the cockpit floor.

Inside the cabin, there are V berth bunks complete with cushions, shelving and plenty of storage – including space for the traditional pie warmer. Accessing the space is via a flip-up panel to provide headroom when going below, and our review boat includes an electric toilet.

The console features two deluxe captains’ seats on pedestals, both with storage nets built into the seatbacks. In front of the skippers’ chair, a large dashboard has enough space on our test boat to fit both a Simrad fishfinder and a 12-inch Lowrance HDS 12 chartplotter side by side, with room to spare to go larger.

A stainless steel grab rail is mounted in front of the crew’s chair, and the skipper’s chair features a stainless footrest. Beneath the skipper’s chair is a large storage box, while a stainless steel frame on the crew’s side leaves space to slide a cool box beneath it.

Fishing features

The Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed’s cockpit is wide and deep, with plenty of internal freeboard to provide a stable, safe and dry fishing platform. Aside from the rocket launcher, the Shaines Hunter 700 Enclosed has four stainless steel rod holders recessed into the topsides, an under-floor kill tank, and two transom-mounted live bait tanks with viewing windows built into them.

The lift-out dive door is easy to remove and refit.

Our featured boat includes a centrally mounted leaning post with four rod holders, and a bait board equipped with more rod holders, and two stainless steel drink holders, while snapper racks frame the aft topdecks and transom. There is also a flip-up bench seat running across the transom.

Built for performance

The Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed is built to take up to 400hp of performance, with our test boat wearing twin 200hp Yamaha outboard engines. Engine controls are mounted on a separate pod beside the six-spoke stainless steel wheel equipped with hydraulic controls.

Beneath the floor is a 380-litre long-range fuel tank connected to a topdeck filler.

On the water, the Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed shows itself as a soft-riding hull, in part due to its 21-degree deadrise and the lower weight coming from the fibreglass stringer technology built into the hull.

Helping to settle the boat in any conditions are Lenco trim tabs – also included as standard.

Boatsales.com.au has Haines Hunter 700 Enclosed boats selling from $176,000 sail-away fitted with a single 300hp Mercury Verado V8 and sitting on an alloy Easytow trailer.
