Garmin’s one-stop boat control system, OneHelm, has now added support for Smartgyro stabilisation systems.
OneHelm is Garmin’s integrated digital switching system – described as a command centre – that allows boat owners to control everything on their boat from the lights to watermakers.
The addition of Smartgyro to the system now means boat owners can control and monitor the stabiliser via compatible multifunction touchscreens that also act as fishfinders and chartplotters.
Smartgyro said options for owners will include the ability to monitor the real-time behaviour and boat-roll reduction performance of multiple gyroscopes installed on a boat.

“Users can also switch from day mode to night mode, check for alarms and access a password-protected installer/service section through which they can run diagnostics and tests,” Smartgyro said.
The addition of Smartgyro to select Garmin multifunction displays also cuts down on the number of screens that a boat owner will need to install.
Garmin’s OneHelm is available for the GPSMAP 7x3/9x3/12x3 and GPSMAP 8400/8600 series, as well as the GPSMAP 8700 Black Box.
Smartgyro’s range of gyro stabilisers is made for boats ranging from 10 metres to more than 25 metres, with a wider range of sizes under development.
The company claims the cutting-edge modular mechanical design of its stabilisers make them the only gyro units that can be serviced, maintained and assembled directly inside the boat.
“Time spent on maintenance and vessel downtime is minimised, with new design opportunities for builders and increased potential for installation in vessels with small access spaces,” it said.
“Ideal for both new builds and refit installations, the Smartgyro series also features design innovations within the control electronics, braking system, liquid cooling system and vacuum enclosure.
