Ski Nautique

Florida-based Correct Craft, the maker of the Nautique range of ski and wakeboard performance craft, embarked on its 74th year of boat building in 1999 with news that its flagship Ski Nautique is the official towboat of the Moomba Masters

The 'appointment' adds to its already successful reputation as the official towboat for the US Masters and a host of international tournaments in recent years.

Part of a seven-model range of inboard ski and wakeboard boats, the Ski Nautique - available in both open and closed bow configurations - measures 5.94m with a 2.31m beam.

It is powered by a 5.8lt Pleasure Craft Marine (PCM) powerplant rated at 260hp, coupled with a progressive pitch four-blade propeller.

According to Peter Webb from the Victorian distributor, Performance Marine, the standard set-up will propel the Ski Nautique to a top speed of 80kmh at around 4000rpm. The tournament craft will cruise at around 56kmh at 3000rpm.

Other powerplant options include 290, 310 or 320hp PCM powerplants or the range-topping 8.2lt PCM Python EFI with a whopping 430hp.

Built with skiboat aficionados in mind, Correct Craft's Total Surface Control hull is designed to provide minimal wake with a modified keel pad, recessed water gear, strategically placed spray relief pockets and reverse chines. With a number of world records attributed to it, this hull provides a flat, smooth and ski-able wake, the company says.

Ideal for wakeboarders, the maker's Total Wake Control Hull uses large ramping vents on either side of the hull's midpoint to raise the bow and lower the stern.

The all-fibreglass hull is constructed using layers of biaxial fibreglass filled with closed cell polyurethane foam - providing flotation and absorbing noise and vibration - and finished with AME 5000 resin. A range of options along with 12 colour schemes are available.

The interior is fitted with a gull wing observer's seat and an upholstered bucket seat for the driver.

Two built-in iceboxes and ample storage are incorporated, including a glovebox at the helm and side storage shelves.

Also at the helm is a burlwood (optional) dash pod with bottom swing ¼tach/hour metre, dual Airguide, speedometers, Teleflex instrumentation and a Clarion AM/FM stereo-cassette player.

The full width stern bench area opens to reveal storage and offers a centre walk-over step for easy access to and from the rear teak swim platform.

Standard features include marine carpet, a teflon-coated ski pylon and transom grabrail.
