Six-level sportfishing superyacht build hits a big milestone

The world’s largest sportsfisher is starting to take shape ahead of its 2023 launch

A boat billed as the world’s largest sportsfisher has taken a big step towards hitting the water with its builder, bespoke luxury motor yacht maker Royal Huisman, announcing the motor yacht’s superstructure had lowered onto the hull.

The 52-metre-long, six-deck aluminium sports fishing superyacht, revealed midway through last year, is dubbed Project 406 ahead of it being officially named by its owner.

Due for launch next year, the superstructure for the first two decks was lowered onto the hull in a process carried out at Royal Huisman’s Dutch shipyards.

Work will now start on the top four decks for the motor yacht, including a specialised observation deck for watching the action in the cockpit, or just taking in the sunset.

Royal Huisman said work would also now start on Project 406’s onboard systems and the cutting-edge technology that will connect the entire boat.

How cutting edge? One of the many features the sports fisher will be fitted out with includes laser-powered exterior lighting.

One thing we gain is a better look at how the Project 406 will come together in its final form, with rendered images revealing much more detail of how the motor yacht will look once completed.

Royal Huisman said the Project 406’s design was “extremely distinctive, with a long bow and high bulwarks sweeping through a clear sheer to a low and uncluttered cockpit aft”.

“The high tower offers outstanding views with a downward angle on the water for specialised fishing,” it said.

“Apart from its practical function, the tower also offers a superb viewing platform for guests, who can follow all the action below.

“And a further element of surprise: a sky lounge that offers an impressive view at the daytime theatre of sportfishing.

“By night, the sky lounge provides the relaxed ambience and stunning outlook of the skies,” Royal Huisman said.

Few other details about the build are known at this stage, although Royal Huisman said more information about the Project 406 would be released as other significant milestones were ticked off.
