Smart boat specialist Siren Marine has expanded its reach to patch into Yamaha’s Command Link diagnostics network to provide smartphone-based support for outboard engines.
The announcement coincides with Siren Marine launching a new-look Connected Boat app that will even swap data with an Apple or Android-based smartwatch.
Adding the new level of Yamaha outboard engine support means owners will now be able to monitor engine hours, engine data and more in real time.
The extra smartwatch functionality will allow skippers to find the boat in a busy marina, electronically lock or unlock it, see if the outboard engine is running trouble-free, and even send select commands.
The app will even allow users to add widgets to the smartphone’s home screen so they can quickly access functions without needing to log in.
The app even has a demonstration mode that will allow anyone keen to see what the new app can do for them can dive in and see what it brings.
Yamaha announced in 2021 that it would buy Siren Marine to help bring data-driven services to Yamaha outboard engine owners.
Siren’s system allows boat owners to plug in modules such as bilge pump alarms, battery monitors, motion sensors and even sensors that can tell if a canvas snap is being undone, and alert owners via their smartphone if anything is out of the ordinary.
Adding Yamaha engine support means the app will now be able to notify owners of potential problems as they develop, and even remind them about scheduled servicing when it is due.
It is based on an annual subscription that connects with the boat either via the mobile phone network or satellite-based services.
