The advances in marine electronics over the past few years are nothing short of startling -- and now Simrad Yachting has developed a new offshore navigation system that brings top-flight commercial-style equipment into the scope of serious boaters.
Starting at $14,000 for the complete Simrad NSO system which includes chartplotter, sonar and radar kits, this is clearly not a system for everyone. However, for owners of large luxury motor cruisers, the cost is probably negligible.
Based on the highly-acclaimed Simrad NSE platform, the NSO Offshore system combines the brand's complete line-up of performance modules for best-in-class performance.
The system is available with sleek 25cm, 38cm and 48cm displays that all feature unique integration and control capabilities. Powered by the rugged NSO marine processor and linked to the all-new OP40 remote keypad, the system delivers control for up to four networked systems when used in multi-display helms. The NSO marine processor has dual DVI video output for easy installation of a remote, repeated display and the system networks seamlessly with the NSE8 and NSE12 for additional upgrade and layout options.
A simple rotary controller, dedicated chart, sonar and radar keys and an alphanumeric keypad deliver professional-level performance in an easy-to-use package. Easy control is assured whether using a chart plotter, autopilot, Broadband Radar, Simrad HD digital radar or as a fishing system with powerful broadband sounder and Simrad's unique StructureScan module.
The NSO Offshore system is compatible with the company's Sonic Hub multi-zone audio system and iPod and navigation lights can also be controlled from the primary NDSP display.
