Queensland yacht builders Scruffie Marine has announced a new trailerable yacht which they say is set to rewrite the sailing rule book -- the Sienna 19.
Combining an evolution of Scruffie’s racing gaff cutter hull -- the Secret 20 -- with a variation of the well-proven lugsail yawl rig -- the Stornaway 18 -- the new boat points to a very different future.
If you want to go short-handed sailing, this boat can be rigged and launched by one person in 15 minutes, we’re told. Or if you have a larger crew you can set lunch for six. Scruffie says this boat is safe, stable, nimble, quick and versatile.
It can be used for cadet training, it is disabled friendly, and it’self-righting and has a self-draining cockpit.
She’s a nice-looking little yawl with a boomless brailing mainsail and a semi-displacement hull.
The new Ex stands for expedition or exploration and hull number one is already in service taking Duke of Edinburgh Award students on five-day voyages of discovery in Moreton Bay, Queensland.
Price for a completed Sienna 19 Ex yawl is around $36,000 and you can get more information from the website: www.scruffie.com
