Security boost for Port Dampier

Security at the Port of Dampier in Western Australia has been given a boost, with the arrival of the new port security vessel Spinifex

The vessel is from the new Arvor range of diesel powered boats, and was manufactured under licence in Australia. It is rated to carry up to eight people. The Arvor was one of the only vessels to fit the strict criteria for the job. It is a diesel shaft drive vessel and it is also trailerable.

With six cyclones hitting Dampier so far this year, trailerbility was a very high priority during the selection process.

Dampier is one of the busiest export ports in Australia, with more than 5000 ship movements per year. The vessel will be used for security, police and surveillance work, monitoring of moorings and some local environment and land management projects.
