
Transport Safety Victoria is holding another free basic skills and safety awareness session for new PWC users on Saturday, April 12. The session, run by Maritime Safety Officers, will start at the boat ramp at Limeburners Point, Geelong at 10.00am and run until 1.00pm.
The team will start the session by taking participants through some of the main PWC safety issues, such as:
>> How to plan your trip, including weather and fuel considerations
>> Waterway rules and on water navigational aids
>> Supervised operation and towing
>> Safety equipment
>> On water refuelling rules and fuel vapour hazard reduction
>> Considerations when riding as a group
>> Parts of the PWC.
Participants will then take to the water to test their knowledge and practice skills, such as:
>> Launching and retrieval of a PWC
>> Berthing alongside a pontoon or object in water
>> Riding stance and shock mitigation
>> Slow/moderate speed maneuvering
>> Emergency object avoidance
>> Holding and boarding a PWC in shallow water
